The G36 is manufactured in three major varieties: the G36 standard rifle, the G36K carbine and the MG36 light machine gun. Similar to all members of the G36 family are: the receiver and butt stock assembly, bolt carrier group with bolt and the return mechanism and guide rod. The receiver includes the barrel, carry handle with integrated sights, trigger group with pistol grip, handguard and magazine socket.

Airsoft guns are modelled after real firearms. Manufacturers go to great lengths to achieve this realistic look and feel, from the gun dimensions to its external markings.

Airsoft G36's standard features include an external magazine stud locking system allows magazines to interlock together (ideal for extra magazine capacity & quick re-loading), under barrel and sides standard steel rails provided easy access to attach tactical accessories, side-folding butt stock equipped with rubber recoil pad, tactical light, laser point, fore-end grip, etc., adjustable Hop-Up system and a functional Selective Fire and Safety Lever.

Airsoft guns can be divided into three distinct groups that are determined simply by how they are powered.

Spring models are airsoft guns that need you to pump or cock the weapon every time you fire it. They are very helpful during close-ranged games. While they may be weaker, and not have the range that other guns do they are the simple to handle and play with.

Gas airsoft guns are often used only once a round and are usually saved as a side arm or secondary weapon. The gas or C02 usually only lasts the duration of the clip and a lot of the time your shots will not be consistent.

Electric airsoft guns are more powerful than spring and gas-powered guns, and usually have great accuracy. Many electric guns come with a hop up system that allows you to lay down a consistent precise line of fire until your clip runs out. Airsoft G36 AEGs can fire at 380 FPS and has 450-round ammo capacity.

The MG36 light machine gun differs from the G36, having a heavier barrel for an increased heat and cook-off resistance.

The G36K carbine has a shorter barrel (fitted with an open-type flash suppressor) and a shorter handguard, which includes a bottom rail that can be used to attach tactical accessories, such as a UTL halogen flashlight from the USP pistol.

The G36C (C - Compact) is a further development of the G36K. In place of the dual optical sight found on the regular G36 and G36K, the G36C was equipped with rail-mounted iron sights that consist of a hooded front post and a flip rear aperture.

The G36A2 is an in-service designation allocated to an upgraded variant of the G36 used by the German Army. The G36A2 upgrade kit also consists of a new handguard and a handgrip with an integrated switch for operating a laser light module.
